Week 5 - Artist - Kara Walker & Russell Crotty

이미지
Kara Walker Kara Walker has been working as an unrivaled female artist representing American contemporary art, especially African descent, since her first exhibition at the Drawing Center in New York, the USA, in 1994. Through her 19th-century Victorian-style shadow art, race and gender, violence and sexuality, It solved problems such as the identity of black people like a thread. Her works, which subtly combine history and present, reality and fiction, are lyrical like a fairy tale, full of wit and humor, despite the heavy subject matter. By showing the world of fiction and fact created independently by Kara Walker, based on the historical novel, based on the situation of the southern United States before the Civil War, the problem and acceptance of race, and historical fiction, it points out where the deep-seated prejudices about race and gender originate. Walker's work has focused on racial issues in the United States, femininity, violence, sexuality, and black identity. H

Week 4 - Artist - Molly Soda & Girl Talk

Today's contemporary artists often try to mix unusual forms that have not been attempted in the past to continue their artistic experiments. Each artist's typical methodologies are casually recombined according to specific prerequisites. Or even in individual works, many artists connect heterogeneous concepts and elements unrelated to each other in a single format. It is also possible to create a new artistic space-time uniquely with this connection. The critical keyword is 'mashup' (remix), derived from popular music. If you look at the creation process of modern artists in the 21st century, you can find some work methods that are different from those of the past. The features that musicians try are becoming a model for new collaboration methods for creators in other fields. Originally, featured meant the participation of a famous musician in recording a relatively less renowned newcomer. However, as hip-hop culture developed, it became increasingly difficult to know w

Week 4 - Art Activity - Remix

이미지
Back to the Future How interesting? Everyone will have moments when they want to go back in time. This week's topic is Remix. I was contemplating what to do, and if I could go back to the past, when would I go back? I wanted to see my parents before I was born. Where did they meet, and where did they date? I asked my dad for an old photo. He sent it to me, so I decided to try to synthesize it with my picture.  In this way, I adjusted the size as much as possible in Photoshop and edited it. Looking at the finished photos, I felt my limitations. I tried to adjust the color and shadow as much as possible, but it didn't come out naturally.  Still, this is my final result in the last photo. I made an effort. When I go back to Korea later, I want to go to where Mom and Dad took pictures and retake pictures. Then the feeling will be different again. When Mom and Dad were young, I felt very strange to be with them now. I was even more surprised that there was not much difference betwe

Week 3 - Artist OTW

이미지
Two artists, I found this week are Jeff Koons and Yayoi Kusama. A dog made of balloons, a pumpkin full of dots, and nothing special, these two works represent the contemporary art market. The two artists who captured both artistry and popularity have one thing in common. The point is that they used self-marketing that deviated from the existing form. A businessman in art, Jeff Koons Suppose there's anything unique about Jeff Koons, the 'most expensive artist to exist,' that he experienced 'real business' before becoming an artist. From membership desks at the Museum of Modern Art in New York to financial brokers on Wall Street. It gave Jeff Koons his perspective as a marketer who worked on financing the work. The marketing strategies studied to achieve higher sales rates as efficiently as possible have influenced today's work. Jeff Koons, dressed in a neat suit, has a bright smile, looks like a business person, and aims for the highest efficiency in his work met

Week 3 - Art & My Major

이미지
My major is marketing. I wondered if there was anything related to my major and art, and I finally found it. It is a way to promote the product by making its products and famous paintings go well together. The product meets art. These days, art marketing, which combines culture and art to increase corporate image and recognition and induce product sales, is the trend. As people's demand for culture, art, and entertainment increases, companies borrow culture and art from marketing and use them as part of their business activities. Product functions were emphasized in the industrial economy era, and standardized products were mass-produced, so marketing was producer-centered. If marketing was done for profit-seeking by mainly showing the functions and effects of products made by producers, the appearance of marketing has also changed as products are individualized, and user-centered products are produced in the era of the emotional economy. Art marketing emerged from this, and a
